The Last Frontier on Earth: Adventure Travel to the Guiana Highlands of South America

12 nights and 13 days, starting and ending local

Set in the ancient wilderness of the Guiana Highlands, where vast savannas are dotted with majestic table mountains, this adventure tour brings together two thrilling experiences. The first half takes you on a world-renowned trek to the summit of Mount Roraima, while the second half includes an unforgettable stay in a hammock at the base of Angel Falls. Out of the 12 nights, 5 will be spent camping at breathtaking sites, offering an unparalleled adventure in one of the most remote corners of the world.

Key aspects of this tour

Travel by Private Minivan

We use a Mercedes Sprinter Minivan (maximum capacity of 12 passengers) for transportation. Luggage is transported in a separate vehicle, allowing you to comfortably enjoy the stunning views of the Gran Sabana with your guide.

Tents and Chairs

We provide one tent and one chair per person. Since a significant amount of time is spent outdoors, we have carefully selected lightweight, durable, and clean equipment to ensure your comfort. After a long trek, having your own chair with a backrest provides unexpected comfort.

Comfort During Long Canoe Transfers

The 8-hour round-trip journey by motorized canoe can be physically demanding. To improve comfort, we have added cushioned seats and seat belts to prevent accidents. The seats are also equipped with bottle holders and small storage compartments, making the long journey more enjoyable. Our staff, along with the guide, constantly evaluates safety and comfort to introduce new equipment to the remote areas where supplies are hard to come by.

Special Hammocks for Angel Falls

The hammocks used for overnight stays at Angel Falls are made from modern nylon, offering excellent breathability and quick-drying properties. Each hammock is also equipped with a dedicated mosquito net to ensure a worry-free sleep without insect bites. Hammock sleeping is known to provide better posture, reduce back strain, and enhance sleep quality through the natural sway, often leading to deeper sleep than a traditional bed. The tour provides carefully selected, state-of-the-art hammocks, ensuring they are always clean and comfortable. Enjoy the enhanced hammock sleeping experience!

Safe and Secure with a Local Guide

A local guide will accompany you throughout the entire journey. In Venezuela, where safety concerns may arise, we provide thorough support, from currency exchange to meal arrangements and boat transfers.

Note: While Venezuela is known for safety issues in urban areas, particularly around Caracas, Canaima National Park, your destination, is sparsely populated and generally safe. However, your guide will be prepared to handle any unexpected situations.

Trekking Equipment
Hiking Boots: High-cut, waterproof lightweight hiking boots.
Trekking Poles, Suitcases, Large Bags: A large bag that can hold all your gear is convenient for transportation. Unnecessary equipment during the trek can be stored at the hotel, so a lockable bag is recommended.
Daypack: Used during trekking to store rain gear, warm clothes, etc. A capacity of around 30 liters is sufficient.
Sleeping Bag: A standard 3- to 4-season bag that can handle temperatures down to around 5°C. Rentals are available.
Sleeping Bag Cover: Useful for warmth and waterproofing. Gore-Tex covers are recommended. A tent mat will be provided.
Clothing: The typical layering system includes underwear (T-shirt or long-sleeve), a long-sleeve shirt, a sweater, and a windbreaker (rain gear). Since temperatures can vary greatly at higher altitudes, wearing layers that can be easily added or removed will help ensure comfort.
T-Shirts: Avoid cotton. Use quick-drying hiking materials.
Long-Sleeve Shirt: Worn over a T-shirt. Wool is fine, but quick-drying materials are more comfortable.
Sweater: Warm, quick-drying fleece is recommended for insulation.
Underwear: Long-sleeved hiking undershirts are handy. These can also be worn when sleeping at the camp.
Pants: Avoid cotton. Stretch materials that are easy to walk in are recommended.
Rain Gear: Gore-Tex two-piece rain gear is ideal. A folding umbrella is also useful.
Socks: Quick-drying socks. Wearing two layers provides extra comfort. Avoid cotton.

Hats: One wide-brimmed hat for sun protection and another for warmth.
Warm Clothes: A thick jacket such as a down jacket is recommended for cold nights. A combination of rain gear and a sweater can also work.
Sunglasses: Strong UV protection is essential. It's a good idea to bring a spare pair.
Headlamp: A regular one will suffice. Don’t forget extra batteries.
Water Bottle: Useful as a hot water bottle in camp. (Around 1 liter capacity)
Thermos: A stainless steel one is more reliable.
Sunscreen: Use a strong SPF sunscreen. Lip balm is also necessary.
Insect Repellent & Medications: Bring insect repellent along with any personal medications, including stomach medicine, cold medicine, and probiotics.
Portable Japanese Food: Handy for when you have little appetite or as a side dish. Umeboshi (pickled plums), instant rice porridge, mini cup noodles, powdered soy sauce, and Japanese-style dressings are convenient.
Toiletries: Include a toothbrush, shampoo, toilet paper, and wet wipes for convenience.
Plastic Bags: Useful for garbage, organizing inside the tent, and waterproofing.
Writing Tools: Always carry a pen for filling out entry and exit documents.
Camera: Don’t forget your camera to capture memories of the trip.
River Crossings and Water Activities During the Trek
The extent to which you may get wet depends on the weather and the river's flow on the day. It is recommended to wear a swimsuit or carry a raincoat during transfers.

Note: During transfers, the boat travels at high speed, so it is not possible to use an umbrella.

Additionally, when participating in water activities at Canaima, please wear water shoes that cover your toes or sandals. There are rare instances where people may injure their feet on rocks underwater.
Trekking to the Angel Falls Viewpoint
The trail is quite unstable underfoot. Please wear well-worn trekking shoes or rubber boots. Additionally, since there is a possibility of rain, carrying rain gear is essential.
Luggage Information
Caracas to Puerto Ordaz: One carry-on bag (up to 8kg) and one checked bag (up to 23kg).
Puerto Ordaz to Canaima: One carry-on bag (up to 10kg).
Any luggage that cannot be taken to Canaima can be stored in Puerto Ordaz and retrieved when returning to Caracas or Santa Elena.
Note: Please avoid storing any valuable items.
Currency Exchange
Due to the extreme instability of exchange rates in Venezuela, we do not recommend that customers exchange money on their own. If you need money for shopping or meals, please inform our staff, who will make the payment on your behalf.
Tour Cancellation Due to Natural Disasters or Unforeseen Circumstances
In the event that natural disasters, unforeseen calamities, political upheaval, war, strikes, riots, or other force majeure situations make it impossible to continue the tour, we may be required to cancel the affected portion of the tour. Please note that in such cases, there will be no compensation or refunds. Additionally, please be aware that sudden cancellations of domestic flights within Venezuela may occur, which could require land travel between Caracas and Puerto Ordaz. We appreciate your understanding in these situations.
