From Northern Wilderness to Endless Savannas: Discover Kenya’s Most Iconic Safari Landscapes

9 nights and 10 days, starting and ending locally

Discover Kenya’s remote Samburu National Reserve, home to the Samburu Special Five. This safari combines Samburu, Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, and Amboseli for an authentic and immersive wildlife experience.
Setting foot on Kenyan soil, the first impression is the vastness and grandeur of the landscape. Soon after, you will be overwhelmed by its raw vitality. Boarding a four-wheel-drive safari jeep, we embark on an adventure that will take us across the African wilderness, immersing ourselves in the wonders of Kenya.

Key aspects of this tour

This Kenya Classic Wilderness Safari is thoughtfully designed for travelers seeking an in-depth exploration of Africa’s raw nature, diverse ecosystems, and iconic landscapes. Beginning in Nairobi, the journey traverses northern semi-arid wilderness, the Great Rift Valley lakes, and the legendary southern savannas—offering a well-balanced and immersive safari experience across Kenya’s most celebrated regions.

The adventure begins in Samburu National Reserve, a remote and rugged landscape shaped by the life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River. Distinct from the southern grasslands, Samburu’s arid terrain and unique climate support rare northern wildlife species and create a quieter, more authentic safari atmosphere. With fewer vehicles and vast open spaces, guests enjoy intimate wildlife encounters and a deeper connection to the natural rhythm of the land.

The Samburu Special Five

Beyond Africa's famous "Big Five," the Samburu Special Five are a group of unique wildlife species found only in the semi-arid landscapes of northern Kenya. These animals have specially adapted to the dry terrain and are a highlight for any safari in the Samburu National Reserve.
The group consists of the Reticulated Giraffe, known for its geometric coat; the Grévy’s Zebra, the world’s largest zebra with fine stripes; the long-horned Beisa Oryx; the Gerenuk, a gazelle that stands on its hind legs; and the Somali Ostrich, distinguished by its striking blue skin. Seeing all five in their natural habitat is a truly rare and iconic wilderness experience.

The journey then continues south to Lake Nakuru National Park, located within the Great Rift Valley. Here, the scenery shifts dramatically to lakeshores, woodlands, and wetlands. The park is renowned for its rhino conservation efforts, Rothschild giraffes, and abundant birdlife, offering a refreshing contrast to the northern wilderness.

The highlight of the safari unfolds in the world-famous Masai Mara, where three full days are dedicated to exploring one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich ecosystems. Endless savannas host dense populations of lions, cheetahs, leopards, and large herbivores, creating exceptional game viewing opportunities. Time spent in a private conservancy further enhances the experience with fewer crowds and exclusive off-road access.

The journey concludes in Amboseli National Park, where vast elephant herds roam beneath the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro—an iconic finale to a safari that captures the full diversity and grandeur of Kenya’s wilderness.
